Walpack Township Committee Meeting Minutes:

October 25, 2011

The meeting was called to order at 8 p.m. by Mayor Maglio who stated this meeting was being held in compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act having been duly advertised.

Present were: Committeeman Pagano, Committeeman Heigis, and Mayor Maglio

Also in attendance: Michelle LaStarza

The minutes of the September 27, 2011 meeting was presented for approval. Committeeman Heigis made a motion to approve the minutes seconded by Committeeman Pagano and unanimously carried.

The committee reviewed the Treasurer’s Report. Committeeman Pagano made a motion to approve the report seconded by Committeeman Heigis and unanimously carried. 

Committeeman Heigis made a motion to approve the vouchers for payment seconded by Committeeman Pagano and unanimously carried. The following bills were approved for payment:

Mayor Maglio updated the committee as to the progress of the repair of the roads in the township. At this time, the National Park Service is waiting for the estimate to repair the roads affected by the latest storm. 

Committeeman Pagano informed the committee of an incident that occurred recently where a call to 911 dispatch resulted in some confusion. Blue Ridge Rescue Squad responded quickly to the incident; however, Blairstown Rescue Squad did not respond as the dispatch service was unable to determine where the Walpack Inn was located. Mayor Maglio stated he would contact 911 dispatch as well as the Blairstown Rescue Squad.

The garage attached to the municipality was discussed. The National Park Service, through a verbal agreement, uses the garage for storage of their signs.

The committee reviewed the website. A few minor changes are in the process. Committeeman Pagano will contact the Walpack Historical Society for pictures and written content.

The committee reviewed the 911 renewal.

Mayor Maglio read the following resolution into the record:

WALPACK TOWNSHIP
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF AN AGREEMENT TO 
PROVIDE 911 SERVICES TO THE TOWNSHIP OF WALPACK 
FOR THE CALENDAR YEARS 2012, 2013 AND 2014

WHEREAS, the Town of Newton provides dispatching services for various municipalities within the County of Sussex; and

WHEREAS, an agreement executed between the Town of Newton and the Township of Walpack shall be signed for calendar years 2012, 2013, 2014 which outlines the obligations of each of the parties and stipulating certain payments to be made to the Town of Newton for providing dispatching services as follows:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Township Committee of the Township of Walpack hereby approves the agreement with the Town of Newton to provide 911 services to the Township of Walpack and authorizes the Mayor and Municipal Clerk to execute said agreement on behalf of the Township Committee of the Township of Walpack.

Committeeman Pagano made a motion to approve the resolution seconded by Committeeman Heigis and unanimously carried. 

An ordinance titled Ordinance Appropriating the Sum of $10,000 for the Demolition of Township Garage was introduced for second reading by Mayor Maglio. Mayor Maglio made a motion to open the floor to the public seconded by Committeeman Pagano. There being no comment from the floor, Committeeman Pagano made a motion to close the hearing seconded by Committeeman Heigis. Mayor Maglio made a motion to adopt the ordinance seconded by Committeeman Heigis and unanimously carried. A roll call vote followed: Ayes: Maglio, Heigis, Pagano Nays: 0 Absent: 0 Abstain: 0

The committee reviewed the correspondence.

There being no one in attendance and no further business to discuss, Committeeman Heigis made a motion to adjourn seconded by Committeeman Pagano. The meeting was adjourned at 8:57 p.m.
